The Six Pack

87: Life is a Highway

  • Motor City here we come! This episode features our NYC to Detroit road trip adventure, courtesy of the fine folks over at GM Diversity. Cruising in our brand new Chevy Sonic, we clocked in over 600 miles on a 10-hour drive (with two stops at McDonald’s). In Detroit we hit up the biggest car show around, the North American International Auto Show and got a taste for a revitalized city, thanks in part to GM reclaiming its spot as the world’s #1 automaker.
  • While at the Auto Show we got a tour from GM’s Associate Director of Competitor Intelligence (aka Chief Spy), Adam Bernard. Adam broke down the who’s who and the what’s what at the show for us and also told us about how GM is reaching out to its gay employees and the greater LGBT community at large. We also spoke to deputy editor at Automobile Magazine Joe DeMatio about the hot cars for 2012 and beyond.
  • Trending this week: Wearing headphones might kill you, people! Please, for the love of life, keep your head up while walking down the street. Also, America is becoming a nation of alcoholics. Are we drinking away all our problems? And finally, are you an up-and-coming weatherman in South Africa? You may want to listen carefully, otherwise an incorrect forecast could land you in the slammer.
  • For more about our partnership with GM Diversity and to check out the highlights from our road trip, click here. And remember: Life is a highway, we wanna entertain you all night long! Listen in now.

86: ¡Es Justin Bieber!

  • Hola, amigos y amigas! We spent all week in the the paradise known as Isla Mujeres, a tiny island off of Cancun. The fine folks at Palace Resorts served up some amazing all-inclusive food, booze, sun, and fun in the land of the ancient Mayans.
  • Being on a working vacation didn’t stop us from finding out what was trending in the news: We’re happy to report that Cancun is about to become only the second place in Mexico where gay marriage will be legal. So if our adventure isn’t enough to get you down here, maybe finding the man (or woman) of your dreams will do it.
  • With the mystery of 2012 firmly in our minds we thought it would be a great opportunity to talk to Ranae Holland, the resident skeptic over at Animal Planet’s new show, “Finding Bigfoot.” Does Bigfoot exist? We’ll find out…kinda.
  • And finally we chat it up with Octavio Favela, the head of LGBT outreach for Palace Resorts. The company is looking to become a premier place for gays to stay, and Favela tells us how they’re going to do it.
  • Oh, and we got henna tattoos. That’s right, we’re bad-ass! Sit back, relax and enjoy the island adventure we call The Six Pack.

Short: Logan Levkoff

Dr. Logan Levkoff, sexologist, relationship expert, and author, joins us in studio for this latest Six Pack Short. We talk about all things sex - from gay to straight - and discuss what it’s like to debate some of the talking heads over at Fox News. (Hint: She told Joy Behar that she is sending Sean Hannity a vibrator in the mail.) Pop in your headphones and bring protection for this sexified Six Pack Short.

81: Bienvenidos a Miami

  • The Six Packin’ Across America tour reached South Beach for this suntastic, abtastic episode. We spent our days at the 12th street beach and our nights taking in all that South Beach has to offer. When not mingling with the locals, we sat down with Lords South Beach owner Brian Gorman to talk southern hospitality and what it means to own an “appropriately oriented” hotel.
  • We also chat with the most powerful gay couple in Miami, Steve Adkins and Cindy Brown, who are the head honchos over at the Miami-Dade Lesbian and Gay Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.  (Yes, he’s gay and she’s a lesbian, but please follow us on this one!) They tell us all about how Miami became a hub of gay life in Florida and how the community has become to integrated into the city.  And Cindy tips us off on a major money-making app (involving the words “grind” and “her.”)
  • The main event of the trip was Sleepless Night, Miami’s 25-hour cultural festival, marking the end of daylight savings time with music, performance, art…and lots of espresso. So yes, The Six Pack hit South beach, the city of six packs, and lived to tell about it.  Wanna find out more about a great city? Check out the LGBT Center here and the Miami Chamber of Commerce here. And tell ‘em Ben and Dave sent ya!

80: Baby Shaker

  • Recording artist Justin Utley and SiriusXM radio host Derek Hartley join us in studio for a double dose of audio star power. Justin describes growing up as a gay Mormon and how he survived reparative therapy before moving to NYC. Derek tells us all about his new book and the keys to success as a radio duo. (Important info for some of us!)
  • Trending this week is a mix of money, Hollywood, and tech: Did you know Youtube is actually making people make money? We’ll give you the tips to cash in. Can stars go back in the closet after coming out publicly? Apparently so. And which apps has Apple banned from the app store? Lots to discuss.
  • We’re off to Miami this week to escape the chilly northeast. If you’re in the Miami area join us at the Lords Hotel on Friday November 4th for drinks and South Beach good times.

Short: Bryan Safi

Bryan Safi calls in from a mysterious, far away place known as Los Angeles. He tells us what it was like to visit Occupy LA, what happened to ‘That’s Gay,’ and what he really thinks about The A-List. Brian also comments on the new trend of gay men wearing heels in LA, but makes it clear he will not be joining the party. ‘That’s Gay’ may be on hiatus, but we assure you he’s still gay, so click play and enjoy.

79: Puerto Rican Poolboy

  • MTV Real World’s bisexual superstar Frank Sweeney joins us this weekfor some real world talk. From the pressures of being on a reality show to being openly bi to perhaps partying a bit too much, Frank shares it all. Has he hooked up with Sam the lesbian? You’ll find out.
  • Trending this week: Inmates in a Connecticut prison think they deserve porn, but is porn a basic human right? There’s a new book about President Obama that says he has daddy issues, but who doesn’t? And stock up on peanut butter now, because the prices are about to skyrocket!
  • It’s another addition of Crime Time and this one is a girl-centric blotter. Are lesbians getting more attention these days or just committing more crime? We investigate.
  • Don’t forget the Six Pack is now live on SiriusXM, every Saturday 1-3 pm EST, channel 108 on your dial. Get a free trial of SiriusXM here.

  • On this episode of The Six Pack we finally reveal the announcement we’ve been teasing for awhile. Yes, it’s true, we’re now live on SiriusXM every Saturday, from 1-3 pm EST on OutQ channel 108. Adjust your satellite and tune in for some live fun. And fear not, the podcasts will still be here every Wednesday. It’s just more Ben and Dave in our ever-expanding media empire!
  • Steve-O is back for another round of uncensored shenanigans. Since we last spoke he did the Roast of Charlie Sheen and managed to get his nose broken by Mike Tyson! Steve-O is quite proud of the “honorary gay” title we gave him, and you’ll be quite impressed with his knowledge of otters and bears.
  • The news is a mixed bag that includes everything from pig thievery (oh my!) to the fall TV season (oy vey!) to a straight version of Grindr (oh lord!).
  • We bring back another ‘Werkin’ It’ with Jose Iniguez from MTV Act. What’s it like working for the do-gooder side of the hippest, hottest network around? And does ‘It Get Better’ when you’re actually out at work?  Yes, yes it does.
